Akva positive in 2Q despite Chile problems

Akva’s 2Q 2013 numbers are positive, with overall good performances in the company’s primary markets outweighing ongoing problems in the aquaculture tech firm’s Chilean operations.

The company’s figures show revenues of NOK 270 million (USD 45.7 million, EUR 34.2 million), which is up from NOK 211 million (USD 35.7 million, EUR 26.7 million) reported at the same time last year. Earnings before interest, taxes, dividends and acquisitions totaled NOK 20 million, double what was recorded in the second quarter last year.

Of the company’s operations, Chile showed particularly low activity but, according to the 2Q report, reduced its cost base and managed to show positive margins.

"There has been strong underlying operational performance in Nordic, Scottish and Canadian market with improved top line and earnings in Q2,” said Akva CEO Trond Williksen. “At the same time we have managed challenging times in the Chilean market with reduced activity, but positive earnings.”
