Aarhus, Denmark-headquartered aquaculture feed company BioMar will partner with Reykjavik, Iceland-based agricultural product supplier Fóðurblandan to manufacture and distribute aquafeed in Iceland, the company said in a 26 May release.
BioMar VP of Salmon Paddy Campbell said that the “partnership gives us a unique opportunity to deliver locally produced, high-quality aquafeed backed by BioMar’s extensive R&D capabilities.”
“Fóðurblandan’s experience and strong supply chain infrastructure makes them an ideal partner to support our customers’ ambitions in Iceland,” he added.
Fóðurblandan CEO Úlfur Blandon also celebrated the news.
“With Fóðurblandan’s strong presence and extensive knowledge of the Icelandic market, combined with BioMar’s world-class technical expertise in feed development, we are forming a powerful alliance to support the future of aquaculture in Iceland," he said. "Producing feed locally is a major step toward reducing the industry’s carbon footprint, and this partnership plays a vital role in building a more sustainable, resilient, and domestically driven feed supply chain.”
The collaboration will include upgrading Fóðurblandan’s Reykjavik production facility, as well as building a distribution center for BioMar products, enabling them to be delivered reliably year-round throughout the nation.
BioMar has appointed several new leaders to support the venture.
Mike McLeish will serve as business unit director for Iceland, while Johannes Gislason will take on the role of sales and business development manager.
BioMar has made meaningful strides in sustainability in recent years.
In March 2025, the company announced that it has posted a record-low forage fish dependency ratio (FFDR), an index which measures the amount of wild fish used in fishmeal for aquaculture.
The company also partnered with the F3 - Future of Fish Feed challenge to test the competition’s winning products within its commercial aquaculture operations.
