Panama cobia farm earns GlobalGAP certification

Open Blue Sea Farms, the largest supplier of fresh cobia to the U.S. market and the largest deep water open-ocean farm in the world, has achieved the GlobalGAP Integrated Farm Assurance Standard.

The Version 4 certification is a pre-farm gate standard that covers the entire production process of the certified product from the hatchery until the point of harvest and packing.

“Meeting the requirements of the Global G.A.P is in line with our strategy to provide our customers with safe, healthy and exceptional quality cobia products from Panama,” said company founder Brian O’Hanlon. “Our operations are based on meeting a high standard and we are committed to responsible practices that support environmental and social responsibility across every aspect of our business.”

Open Blue underwent a comprehensive assessment of its business by Quality Certification Services (QCS), an independent accredited certification body.

Open Blue cobia are raised from eggs in an integrated farming platform, the result of a decade of cutting-edge investigative research on deep ocean aquaculture in collaboration with the world’s leading scientific laboratories and universities.
