Tunisian farm gets FoS nod for sea bass and sea bream

A company that distinguished itself in 1988 by producing the first aquaculture farm in Tunisia has received Friend of the Sea certification for its sea bass and sea bream operations there.

L’Aquaculture Tunisienne has a 20 million-fry capacity. According to Friend of the Sea, the company carefully monitors water quality, waste and the farm’s impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

The company also has improved its escapes prevention system, uses an annual monitoring plan of its energy production, and uses small hydroelectric turbines to generate electricity.

"We are particularly fond of the Friend of the Sea certification, as it allows us to independently confirm our full engagement to sustainability at international level,” said Karim Garnaoui, CEO of L’Aquaculture Tunisienne.
