San Diego, California, U.S.A.-based Bumble Bee Foods has made the “difficult decision” to wind down operations at its tuna processing plant in Santa Fe Springs, California, the company confirmed in a statement to SeafoodSource.
The seafood giant – which is owned by Taiwanese seafood firm FCF – will close down the facility in phases through March 2027, eliminating more than 230 jobs.
“This decision is part of an effort to streamline our supply chain and production network by reducing the number of processing points in the value stream. We informed affected employees and are committed to supporting them throughout the transition,” Bumble Bee said.
The major seafood supplier filed a California WARN notice on 11 August, stating that 197 employees at its facility at 13100 Arctic Circle will be laid off effective 10 November, per Los Angeles Times. Bumble Bee expects approximately 36 additional employees to lose their jobs when the plant finally closes, per Los Cerritos Community News.
Bumble Bee also filed a WARN notice last year, noting that 56 workers at the Santa Fe Springs facility would be laid off in December 2025. The two WARN notices alone account for 253 affected positions at the Santa Fe Springs facility since late 2025, Los Cerritos Community News said.
