Two seafood companies owned by Oslo, Norway-based seafood sustainability impact investment firm Bluefront Equity are merging.
Bluefront said aquaculture tech companies Spillfree Analytics and Piscada Aqua will merge into one company, citing the overlap between the two firms’ offerings.
Spillfree Analytics supports fish farms with its “Feedhub” product to analyze and improve feeding processes, while Piscada Aqua provides process control and analysis software for aquaculture operations.
“These two companies sport complementary product portfolios that focus on improving feeding processes, professionalizing feeding, and enabling increased capacity for fish farmers,” Piscada Aqua Managing Director Steinar Fossen said. “This provides an excellent foundation for delivering complete and even more integrated solutions for feeding operations.”
Bluefront said Fossen will serve as the leader of the newly merged company, which will now operated under the Piscada Aqua name.
Fossen said the goal of the merger is to have Spillfree’s software become a part of Piscada Aqua’s offerings. Its software uses AI-based analytics of video and data to optimize biological conditions in aquaculture operations, improving and optimizing fish farms.
Fossen said Piscada will offer the technology from its position as a “neutral partner” independent of suppliers.
“We believe that fish farmers will recognize the value of this,” he said.
The two companies are based in Trondheim, Norway, and will merge onto one location at Piscada’s offices, Bluefront said.
“Seafood investor Bluefront Equity owns both Piscada Aqua and Spillfree,” Bluefront said. “Following completion of the merger, Bluefront Equity’s funds will own approximately 85 percent of the merged business.”
Bluefront Equity has had a controlling stake of Spillfree since 2023 and only recently acquired the aquaculture arm of Piscada Aqua in in April 2025.
