Christian Chramer has been named the new CEO the Norwegian Seafood Council, the trade body in charge of promoting Norwegian seafood.

Christian Chramer has been named the new CEO the Norwegian Seafood Council, the trade body in charge of promoting Norwegian seafood.

Chramer, 48, was previously the regional communications director of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), an employees union. He previously worked for the NSC as both communications director and fisheries envoy in Southeast Asia. The vote in favor of his appointment by the NSC’s board of directors was unanimous.

“[Chramer’s] broad management experience and strong communication skills will help to lift the seafood council further, and we look forward to an exciting collaboration in the future,” NSC Deputy Board Chair Amund Drønen Ringdal said.

Chramer said he was looking forward promoting one of Norway's most-important export industries.

“Our goal is to further develop the strong position that Norwegian seafood has globally by ensuring that a growing world population to an even greater extent opens its eyes to healthy and sustainable seafood,” he said.

Chramer will take up the position on 1 October, 2022. During the interim, Børge Grønbech, who was appointed in May 2022, will continue in his role as acting CEO. Renate Larsen, the council’s previous full-time CEO announced her resignation in February 2022. She had held the position for six years.

In 2021, Norway exported 3.1 million metric tons (MT) of seafood products worth NOK 120.8 billion (USD 12.2 billion, EUR 11.7 billion), which was the highest trade volume and value ever achieved by the Scandinavian country. According to the council, these totals represent the equivalent of 42 million seafood meals consumed every single day of 2021.
