Amersfoort, Netherlands-based aquaculture feed company Skretting has named Maarten Bijl CEO, effective 1 September.
Bijl’s predecessor in the role, Bastiaan van Tilburg, will take over as CEO of animal nutrition giant Nutreco, the parent company of Skretting. Both companies are owned by privately held Dutch trading company SHV Holdings.
A nearly 20-year veteran of various SHV companies, Bijl formerly served as the chief digital officer at Nutreco, a role the company created for him in early 2024 in response to what the company then called the “rapid digital developments that are happening in our markets and the world in general.” Before that, he served as the managing director of Trouw Nutrition North America for Nutreco.
In a release about the new role, Bijl said that he felt "excited and honored” by the responsibility.
“Having spent over a decade in regional general manager roles in different continents and the last four and a half years at Nutreco, I’ve had opportunity to get to know the Skretting team and business, and I’m impressed by what I see. The relevance of aquaculture in the food chain and in our global challenge of feeding the future should not be underestimated,” Bijl said.
Until a successor to the chief digital officer role is announced, Bijl will hold both roles, the company said.
In the same release, Nutreco highlighted that the 100-year-old company currently has around 11,000 employees worldwide. It said that its net revenue in 2024 was USD 9.2 billion (EUR 7.9 billion), and it also reported that SHV’s net sales had reached USD 26.8 billion (EUR 23 billion) in 2023.
In another release, Nutreco elaborated on the appointment of Bastiaan van Tilburg as CEO – a move that will also become effective 1 September.
It said that current CEO David Blakemore, who came out of retirement in 2022 to lead the company, has decided to step down.
For his part, Blakemore thanked his colleagues and said he was “immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together.”
SHV CEO Floris de Ryck expressed his thanks to Blakemore and wished him the best.
Van Tilburg has been with SHV companies for more than a decade. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Skretting and the COO of aquaculture for Skretting.
Nutreco said that van Tilburg “brings a strong track record of building connected teams that rally around a common purpose and deliver positive results.”
