Chicken of the Sea takes sustainability to next level, joins MCSLA

Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods (COSFF) has decided to join with the Maine Certified Sustainable Lobster Association (MCSLA), promoting the move as proof the popular division of the Thai Union Frozen Products Group (TUF) is committed to sustainability.

A Maine-based nonprofit organization, MCSLA works to guide its customer base through to the successful completion of relevant sustainability initiatives such as Marine Stewardship Council certification. For COSFF, joining the Maine-based organization adds to the growing list of memberships held by the company that focus on sustainability – COSFF is a member of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, National Fisheries Institute Crab Council and the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation.

According to Bryan Rosenberg, president and CEO at Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods, this latest affiliation is very much in step with parent company Thai Union Group’s own drive to be at the forefront of socially responsible, sustainable industry ventures.

“Chicken of the Sea is focused on sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives,” said Rosenberg. “Our parent company, Thai Union Group, is a leading sustainability driven company in the global marketplace, and we look forward to further pursuing that commitment in the lobster industry.”

As the Maine lobster is oft-considered an iconic species at the apex of quality, joining the MCSLA shows that a company is dedicated to “high quality, sustainable seafood,” or so says Craig A. Rief, President of the Maine Certified Sustainable Lobster Association.

“Membership in the MCSLA shows that an organization has the highest standards of commitment to sustainability in our industry, and we are delighted to welcome Chicken of the Sea as a new member.”

It’s all about Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label certification for the MCSLA currently; the association hopes to complete the process come November this year.
