Italian tuna firm highlights sustainability

Generate Conserve, a leading tuna producer in Italy and parent company of ASDOMAR canned-tuna products, on Tuesday launched a TV advertising campaign in Italy to promote its Friend of the Sea (FOS) and SA8000 Social Accountability certifications.

The campaign highlights ASDOMAR’s dedication to the sustainable sourcing of exclusively adult yellowfin tuna.

ASDOMAR brand tuna and mackerel was the first in Italy to achieve FOS certification and now bears the organization’s eco-label in supermarkets across the country.

“I wanted to convey to our customers the efforts we put into creating the very best tuna,” said Vito Gulli, president of Generate Conserve. “Our factories are of the most environmentally friendly in Italy, using only renewable energy, and we only use sustainable adult tuna, which have been given the chance to reproduce.”

“Millions of Italians will learn about the Friend of the Sea [eco-label], and we trust that, together with other communication initiatives of certified producers, this will greatly increase the visibility of the logo in Italy,” said Paolo Bray, FOS executive director.
