The largest global McDonald’s franchise, Arcos Dorados, recently committed to sourcing all of its seafood sustainably by 2020.
The franchisee, which operates in Latin America and the Caribbean, said in a new sustainability report that many of its products are already sustainably sourced, including all of its fish from Brazil, according to Environmental Leader.
Arcos Dorados said that its large footprint – it operates more than 2,100 McDonald’s restaurants with around 90,000 employees – means that it must “take a leadership role” in improving environmental impact.
The pledge is part of the company’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals.
