New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay Clams will now carry the Friend of the Sea seal of approval, after getting certification for the company’s surf clam harvesting operation.
The certification follows an audit studying the company’s harvesting methods and chain-of-custody process.
The audit found the company’s custom designed rake and net system maximizes catch while minimizing bycatch.
“Friend of the Sea certification confirms our efforts and continuous commitment to sustainability, and it represents an important added value for our product,” said Mike Ponder, Cloudy Bay Clams general manager.
