FDA Transfers EU Health Certificates to NOAA

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration yesterday announced that it will stop issuing European Union Export Certificates after Feb. 17.

The FDA will transfer the issuance of health certificates for exporting fish and fishery products to the European Union to the Seafood Inspection Program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA SIP).

The certificate referral program to NOAA SIP applies to all fish and fishery products for export to the EU and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). The FDA will continue to produce its EU Export Certificate List, which identifies all fish and fishery product establishments in the United States that are in regulatory good standing with the FDA and that seek to export fish and fishery products to the EU and EFTA.

An explanation of the transfer and information for seafood processors is provided in the document, "Guidance for Industry" document available on the FDA Web Site
