Morey's Wins 2008 Alaska Symphony of Seafood

Morey's Wild Alaskan Party Pack from Morey's Seafood International of Golden Valley, Minn., was the grand prize winner of the 2008 Alaska Symphony of Seafood. The product also captured first place in the smoked products category.

The winners were announced during the annual gala in Anchorage, Alaska, on Thursday.

Rounding out the smoked products category was Ray's Gourmet Wild Yukon Salmon Chowder from Boreal Fisheries of St. Mary's, Alaska, in second place and Wild King Salmon Jerky from Trapper's Creek Smoking Co. of Anchorage in third place.

In the foodservice category, Heart Smart Low-Fat Breaded Alaskan Pollock from Trident Seafoods Corp. of Seattle took first place, followed by Alaska Sockeye Salmon Burger from Trapper's Creek Smoking in second place. Third place went to Wild Alaskan Sockeye with Fire Roasted & Savory Seasoned Washington Apple Slices from Hartley's NW Seafoods of Woodland, Wash.

In the retail category, Trident Naturals Mediterranean Style Cod Fillets from Trident Seafoods captured first place, trailed by Wild Alaska Salmon Wrap from Taco Loco of Anchorage in second place. Sea Choice Citrus Herb Salmon Palate Perfect Entrée from Ocean Beauty Seafoods of Seattle took third place.

Winning the Anchorage People's Choice Award was Ray's Gourmet Wild Alaskan Yukon Salmon Chowder from Boreal Fisheries, which also won the Seattle People's Choice Award on Jan. 23.

Winners receive exhibit space at the International Boston Seafood Show later this month, as well as free airfare to and from Boston. The Alaska Symphony of Seafood was created by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation in 1993 to promote new product development for Alaska seafood.
