2nd U.S. retailer to carry Verlasso salmon

Zupan’s Markets — a three-store, family-owned grocer in Portland, Ore., with a fourth store to open early next year — on Tuesday announced that it will be the second U.S. retailer to carry Verlasso’s line of premium salmon.

A brand and trademark of AquaChile, Verlasso produces “harmoniously raised” salmon that balances nutrition with the needs of the environment.

“We are thrilled to bring Verlasso salmon to the customers of Zupan’s,” said Scott Nichols, director of Verlasso. “For more than 35 years, the Zupan’s family has provided the highly discerning consumers of Portland with hand-picked, high-quality grocery items. Verlasso is proud to be a part of that tradition.”

“We know our customers at Zupan’s care about feeding their families the freshest and most sustainable seafood options possible,” said Bruce Brotherton, Zupan’s director of perishables. “Verlasso, like Zupan’s, wants to offer our customers the best-tasting, highest-quality sustainable salmon in the marketplace.”

In late September, Fresh Direct, a New York-based online grocer, became the first U.S. retailer to sell Verlasso salmon.
