Fish and chips in a flash

Young's Seafood on Tuesday announced the launch of its Micro Fish Fingers and Chips, available in Asda stores beginning Sunday.

The product, which contains four fish fingers and a 100-gram portion of chips that can be microwaved in three minutes, is designed to appeal to young adults and on-the-go families looking for a quick, easy meal. The product is sold in 200-gram packages for a suggested retail price of GBP 1.59 (USD 2.42, EUR 1,82).

The crumb coating and the innovative packaging technology prevent moisture from the fish from entering the crumb, resulting in a crispy rather than soggy fish finger after microwaving from frozen, according to Young's.

The introduction of Micro Fish Fingers and Chips comes seven months after Young's debuted its original Micro Fish Finger.

"The launch of the Micro Fish Finger last year heralded a major, long-awaited breakthrough for quick-and-easy food. To keep up the momentum and offer more unique, great-tasting products to fit into peoples' busy lifestyles, we've now added the most natural range extension to our microwaveable range: fish fingers and chips," said Charlotte Broughton, Young's marketing controller.

"This is a quick-and-simple snack option that appeals strongly to consumer tastes and needs," she added. "Fish fingers and chips is one of Britain's favorite meals. This product is great for 'fish-fearful' consumers and another step in our campaign to help encourage the nation to eat fish twice a week."
