Gorton’s launches healthy recipe contest

In an effort to promote its new line of grilled seafood, Gorton’s Seafood on Wednesday launched its Grilled Recipe Renovation Contest. The contest challenges consumers to use Gorton’s grilled seafood products to create a new dish that is nutritious and low in calories and fat.

“Gorton’s has always made it easy and delicious to enjoy seafood, which is a natural source of omega-3s,” said Zach Soolman, the company’s director of marketing. “Our newly expanded line of Flame-Grilled Seafood offers consumers straight-from-the-grill taste in even more variety than before. We hope that by launching the Grilled Recipe Renovation Contest we will inspire consumers to try new delicious and healthy ways to add more seafood to their diets in the New Year.”

The contest requires an original recipe using one of Gorton’s Grilled Seafood products — grilled tilapia, grilled shrimp, grilled salmon or all natural grilled fillets. Contestants must also submit an original photograph of the process, preparing, cooking, serving or eating and a 50-word recipe renovation tip.

The Gloucester, Mass.-based company will select 31 finalists. The grand prize winner will receive a USD 5,000 gift certificate to a major home-furnishings retailer, free Gorton’s Seafood each month for a year (12 free Gorton’s product coupons) and the winning dish professionally photographed and posted on the company’s Web site. Ten first-place prizes will include a year of free Gorton’s Seafood each month, the recipe professionally photographed and posted on the Web site; 20 second prizes include a year of free seafood each month.

In addition, Gorton’s will award three voter’s choice prizes. Consumers will have the opportunity to vote online for their favorite recipe from 15 March to 30 April. The three recipes with the highest amount of votes will receive gift certificates to a leading home-furnishings retailer in the amount of USD 2,500, USD 1,500 and USD 1,000.

The contest runs through 23 February.
