Leading Chinese real estate developer opens seafood store, plans more

A development by one of China’s top real estate firms has opened a giant seafood emporium, which claims to set a new standard for seafood retailing.

Sheng Yan Hai Xian (Seafood Feast) opened recently in the Yang Guang 100 Feng Huang Commercial Centre (Sunshine 100 Phoenix Centre) in Yixing, a city in Jiangsu Province on China’s east coast.

Marketing material sent to media show imported seafood at Sheng Yan Hai Xian, including lobster imported from Australia and New Zealand, frozen “silver cod” and imported and local crab.

Yang Guang 100/Sunshine 100 was founded in 1999 in Beijing and has built commercial as well as residential properties across the country. Real estate companies in recent years have sought to cash in on growing demand for luxury and imported foods by opening food and seafood retail outlets – or seeking them as tenants in their properties.

Sunshine 100 said it plans additional locations of Seafood Feast in other prosperous “second- and third-tier” cities.
