Long John Silver’s outsources seafood supply chain operations

Long John Silver’s is handing over the reins of its supply chain operation to SpenDifference in a move that the popular restaurant franchise assures will only strengthen its existing commitment to seafood suppliers and overall sustainability.

SpenDifference, a firm well-versed in partnering with restaurants to optimize their supply chains, will soon be purchasing all food and non-food items for Long John Silver’s and its 1,100 units located throughout the U.S. and Asia. Top representatives for the quick-service seafood enterprise are confident that SpenDifference will uphold its core values when dealing with established suppliers moving forward.

“Through continued interaction and engagement with our seafood suppliers, Long John Silver’s will further strengthen these long-standing partnerships during and after the transition to our new supply chain partner, SpenDifference,” said Brian Unger, chief operating officer at Long John Silver’s, to SeafoodSource.com.

Long-standing partnerships forged in the name of sustainability between Long John Silver’s and seafood suppliers such as Trident Seafoods and American Seafoods Group will remain intact and prioritized, Unger assured. The supply chain management firm was thoroughly vetted for Long John Silver’s essential beliefs, including those celebrated in its existing supplier partnerships.

“SpenDifference fully demonstrated the leadership and track record to maintain our core values and principles from a supply chain management perspective while delivering uninterrupted products at competitive pricing to our franchisees,” said Unger.

Long John Silver’s aims to utilize SpenDifference’s full outsource model, which includes placing on-site personnel at the brand’s Louisville, Kentucky, headquarters.

“Long John Silver’s has further validated our concept and approach,” said Maryanne Rose, SpenDifference president and CEO. “It’s very exciting to partner with such an iconic American brand, and we look forward to helping Long John Silver’s leadership and franchisees grow their system.”

SpenDifference now buys commodities for nearly 7,000 restaurants to the tune of USD 1 billion (EUR 907 million). Major clients alongside Long John Silver’s include Carvel, Cinnabon, Schlotzsky’s, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Auntie Anne’s, McAlister’s Deli, Sizzler, Shoney’s and HuHot Mongolian Grill.
