North Coast Seafoods raised USD 33,000 for breast cancer research via month-long oyster fundraiser

Family-owned Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based sustainable seafood supplier North Coast Seafoods raised USD 33,632 (EUR 28,691) for breast cancer research and patient programs through a month-long oyster fundraiser. 

Throughout the month of October, North Coast collected a share of all proceeds from oysters sold at restaurants it supplies to be donated to the American Cancer Society at its inaugeral 13 November Shuck Cancer event in Boston. 

North Coast also exclusively supplied oysters to the sold-out event, which brought in 300 guests including community stakeholders, oyster farmers, and industry partners to support the society’s mission. 

“Oysters bring people together, and last month, they helped make a real difference,” North Coast Chief Vision Officer Rich Polins said in a release about the fundraiser and event. “This initiative reflects the heart of our community: our 567 dedicated team members, our incredible restaurant and retail partners, and the best oyster growers in the business – from Prince Edward Island down through Maine, Cape Cod, Massachusetts’ South Shore, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Long Island, and Cape May. We are deeply grateful for their hard work and support, which made this donation possible.”

American Cancer Society Associate Director of Development Amanda Idinge said that the society was “grateful to North Coast Seafoods and their restaurant partners for supporting our mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.”

“Initiatives like this not only fund groundbreaking research and essential patient services – including rides to treatment and our Boston Hope Lodge – but also unite the community around a shared mission filled with hope. Each oyster enjoyed this October brings us closer to a future without breast cancer,” she said.
