Family-owned Boston, Massachussets, U.S.A.-based sustainable seafood supplier North Coast Seafoods has partnered with the American Cancer Society to raise money for breast cancer research this October.
North Coast will donate a portion of the proceeds from its oysters sold at restaurants throughout the month to the cause and celebrate the funds raised at the American Cancer Society’s 13 November Shuck Cancer event in Boston.
“Oysters bring people together, and this October, they’re also helping make a real difference,” North Coast Chief Vision Officer Rich Polins said
The October fundraiser will not require any extra cost or effort from the restaurants North Coast supplies.
“This campaign allows us to support lifesaving research and patient care in a way that’s both simple and impactful. All our restaurant partners need to do is keep doing what they do best: Serve delicious oysters,” Polins explained.
American Cancer Society Associate Director for Development Amanda Idinge said the organization was grateful to North Coast and its restaurant partners.
“It's initiatives like this that not only support groundbreaking research and vital patient support programs, such as rides to treatment and our Boston Hope Lodge, but also unite the community around a shared mission filled with hope," she said. "Each oyster enjoyed this October brings us closer to a future without breast cancer.”
In a release about the news, North Coast thanked its network of over 30 oyster farmers for their support in the program.
“Their dedication to sustainable aquaculture and the highest-quality shellfish ensures every oyster served supports both local communities and a larger cause,” North Coast said.
