Scotland Food & Drink finalists unveiled

Six seafood companies are among the 45 companies short-listed for the 2010 Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards.

A total of 218 entries were received, more than double 2009's total. The winners will be unveiled at an awards ceremony at Benromach Distillery in Forres on 6 May. Sponsored by Clydesdale Bank, the 14th annual awards are jointly organized by the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and Scotland Food & Drink.

The finalists in the seafood category are Pinneys of Scotland for its Cook Menu King Prawn Tikka Masala with baby spinach red pepper and chopped coriander; Grieg Seafood Hjaltland UK Ltd. for its Wildwaters Smoked Salmon range; Sleepy Hollow Smokehouse for its cold smoked salmon, hot smoked salmon and smoked pollock; and Caithness Smokehouse for its smoked mussels, smoked scallops and hot and cold smoked salmon.

Among the three finalists in the foodservice-product-of-the-year category is Lossie Seafoods Ltd. for its 1-kilogram Catering Canape smoked salmon pack and its 1-kilogram Catering Ultimate Special Selection long slices. The company is also one of three finalists for the international business of the year.

And, in the environment and sustainability category, Lighthouse Caledonia, Scotland's largest independent salmon farming company, is among the three finalists.
