Shrimp bowls, tacos highlighted in NFI recipe series

The National Fisheries Institute’s Shrimp Council is hoping to see more shrimp hit the grill this summer in the United States, joining forces with a popular food blog to cook up unique summer recipes featuring the star seafood.

Food blog Damn Delicious has posted a new recipe – Grilled Honey Garlic Shrimp Bowls – from its creator, Chungah Rhee, featuring shrimp that both highlights the versatility of the species and requires minimal effort to prepare.

“Chungah’s stylish work supports our goal of showing just how easy it is to prepare shrimp,” said Brandon Phillips, a senior director of communications and advocacy with the  National Fisheries Institute. “With this dish, she even takes viewers a step or two beyond the basics to come up with a truly unique take on grilled shrimp.”

The Shrimp Council forged a formal partnership with Rhee in March, with the first of four shrimp recipes created by the blogger posted in May (Avocado and Shrimp Crostini Bites). This marks the second recipe from Rhee, with two more planned for release later this year.

The council has gotten in on the summer fun as well, posting a new recipe video on its own Eat Shrimp Facebook and YouTube pages. The video, which demonstrates how to make Grilled Shrimp Tacos with Avocado and Tomato Salsa, is part of a series and has garnered more than 77,000 views and elicited more than 1,900 Facebook reactions since its release.

“Recipe videos continue to be one of our top-performing forms of content,” Phillips said. “Between the videos Damn Delicious is creating for us and the original videos produced by the Council, we are building a database of great recipes we’ll be sharing with our Eat Shrimp audiences.”
