Boston, Massachusetts-based supplier Slade Gorton and Company celebrated 90 years in the seafood industry at this year’s Seafood Expo North America event by launching its new retail-ready Fish n’ Chips meal kit, featuring fresh, all-natural Icelandic cod lightly-coated with crunchy, toasted crumbs.
The meal kits feature 10 ounces of Marine Stewardship Council-certified Icelandic cod portions, as well as five ounces of fresh-cut sweet potato crinkle fries. Developed under Slade Gorton’s Made Simple brand, the meal kits are available for nationwide distribution, the company announced during SENA18, which was held in Boston, Massachusetts from 11 to 13 March.
“As part of our mission to make wholesome and sustainable seafood more accessible, we set out to develop products that appeal to consumers of all ages,” Slade Gorton President and CEO Kim Gorton said. “Leveraging our direct access to Iceland’s responsibly harvested seafood through our partner, Samherji, our updated version of the ever-classic fish n’ chips is helping to satisfy America’s appetite for nutritious, delicious, and affordable seafood that is good for you, [and] good for the planet.'”
The Fish N’ Chips kit “represents an expansion to Slade Gorton’s growing range of retail ready Seafood Made Simple meal kits,” the company said, noting its existing “Zoodle” kits, featuring salmon or shrimp with vegetable noodles.
Along with moving new products to the forefront in 2018, Slade Gorton is also moving key personnel into new roles. The company named Mike Gorton Jr. as its new vice president of Foodservice Sales at the beginning of the month, according to a press release.
Gorton Jr., who has been working with the company since 1988, has served in various capacities throughout the business, including as the vice president of national accounts. He joins his sister, Kim Gorton, as the third generation of Gortons to step into an executive leadership position within the company.
“Mike has learned the business from the bottom up, quite literally, and has a deep understanding of how to create value and deliver consistent results for our customers," Ki Gorton said. "His broad experience at both ends of the supply chain are core to what Slade Gorton stands for in making wholesome and sustainable seafood from around the world more accessible to the American consumer. I am proud and excited to have him at my side in this new role."
Founded in 1928, Slade Gorton and Company is a third-generation importer, distributor, and manufacturer of premium fresh, frozen, and value added seafood products. The company exhibited at SENA18 at booth #705.
