Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A.-based Southeastern Grocers, which operates more than 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores in the U.S. Southeast, has implemented a spring season price-hold program.

Southeastern Grocers, which was purchased by Aldi US in August 2023 in a deal that closed 7 March 2024said the program is offering seasonal price reductions on more than 1,000 frequently purchased products, including seafood.

“Shoppers can enjoy an average savings of nearly 20 percent on products identified by blue ‘Price Hold’ signs, spanning a wide range of necessities such as pantry staples, dairy and meat products, snacks, cleaning and household essentials, and much more,” Southeastern Grocers said.

The program also offers savings on an assortment of frozen seafood, including cod, fish sticks, crab cakes, flounder, and other items, Southeastern Grocers Senior Director of Communications and Community Meredith Hurley told SeafoodSource.

All Gorton’s frozen fish products are on sale for USD 6.99 (EUR 6.43) through the program, Hurley confirmed. Additionally, she said Southeastern Grocers customers can also “save on king crab legs, snow crab legs, salmon, shrimp, and more.”

The grocer is also encouraging customers at Winn-Dixie and Harveys to try its own-brand seafood line, Fisherman’s Wharf, “which offers an array of high-quality fresh and frozen seafood options, including BAP-certified and sustainable seafood options for everyday savings,” Hurley said.

Overall, the price-hold program – similar to recent U.K. supermarket price-lowering initiatives – aims to help families stretch their budgets further, “ensuring they can enjoy quality and value throughout the spring season and beyond,” Southeastern Grocers Chief Merchandising Officer Dewayne Rabon said.

“We’re committed to providing exceptional value on a wide range of products, including seasonal favorites, to help our customers get the items they need while also achieving their savings goals. With Price Hold, we’re not just lowering prices; we’re holding them down on grocery staples across our Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations,” Rabon said.

In 2023, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie customers saved more than USD 1.65 billion (EUR 1.5 billion) by utilizing the grocer’s rewards apps, discount program, and coupons, according to the company, with its line of own-brand products offering nearly 8,000 items to help customers save an average of 20 percent compared to national brands.

The grocer’s “Know & Love” product line in particular, which offers consumers products across a wide range of food, beverage, and household categories, is set to expand in 2024, “offering shoppers access to nearly 1,000 clean-label products and reinforcing the grocer’s dedication to providing affordable, high-quality options,” the company said in a press release.

In a 7 March press release, Aldi said it will convert at least 50 Winn-Dixie and Harvey's stores to the Aldi banner by the end of the year.
