National Shrimp Day, observed on 10 May in the United States, gave seafood suppliers, chefs, associations and others a reason to celebrate the most popular crustacean in the country. Several chefs released videos touting the taste and benefits of eating shrimp, and a number of other unique campaigns – including contests and recipes – were released.
“Shrimp is not only the most popular seafood dish in America, it’s also one of the most popular social media food topics. As the NFI Shrimp Council likes to say, ‘that’s pretty big for a shrimp’,” said Gavin Gibbons, spokesman for the National Fisheries Institute.
