UK retail seafood sales spike through national campaign

The Co-operative Food has attributed a significant upturn in fish sales to the return of the national eight-day Seafood Week last month.

"Seafood Week 2015 was a massive success at The Co-operative Food, where a coordinated campaign from digital to the shelf edge helped bring new shoppers to the category. The end result was double-digit sales growth and nothing says a job well done more than that," said Steve Addison from The Co-operative Food.

The U.K. Seafish Authority reintroduced the annual Seafood Week last month (9 to 16 October) after an eight-year absence to trumpet the work of the seafood industry and encourage consumers to eat more fish more often.

The campaign gave the entire seafood industry the opportunity to promote its work, companies and brands through a range of events and special offers for consumers, as well as national and regional media coverage.

Joining the Co-operative as active Seafood Week partners from the retail industry were Morrisons, Aldi, and Sainsbury's.

Young's, Loch Fyne, and Yo! Sushi also got onboard alongside National Fish and Chip Awards winner Frankie's, and Seafood Restaurant of the Year champion Gamba.

Seafish has announced that next year’s Seafood Week will be held from 7 to 14 October 2016.
