Buford, Georgia, U.S.A.-based seafood wholesaler Moon N Sea GA has agreed to pay USD 265,000 (EUR 231,436) to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
“This lawsuit is a reminder that employers violate discrimination laws when they fail to hire qualified applicants on the basis of sex,” Marcus G. Keegan, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Atlanta District, said in a release. “Qualified female applicants should never be precluded from jobs and industries involving manual labor because of their sex.”
The EEOC, a federal agency that investigates instances of employment discrimination that violate the law, claimed that at least 19 women were rejected for warehouse associate positions at Moon N Sea GA – then known as KGI Trading – because they were female. The agency alleged that female applicants were told the company preferred to hire men, claiming they could lift more weight than women.
The EEOC filed a lawsuit on the women’s behalf in September 2025.
Now, EEOC said Moon N Sea GA has agreed to settle the lawsuit by paying a USD 265,000 payment, providing training on sex discrimination law for its employees, and reporting on its compliance efforts to the EEOC.
“We commend KGI for agreeing to implement safeguards to prevent future discrimination on the basis of sex. Ensuring that workplaces are free from sex discrimination remains a top priority for the EEOC,” EEOC Atlanta District Director Darrell Graham said in a statement.
