Home meal delivery services add pollock noodles, other seafood options

Seeking new ways to attract Americans eating healthy and high-protein diets, home meal delivery companies are adding new seafood options.

Wilmington, North Carolina-based Clean Eatz Kitchen, which delivers healthy meals, rolled out a keto-friendly entree featuring pollock noodles to its May menu. The gluten-free noodles, made with wild-caught, sustainable Alaskan pollock and egg whites, contain 10 grams of protein per serving

The noodles are featured in Clean Eatz’ Keto Sweet Chili Stir Fry meal.

"It's the craziest thing, I was very skeptical at first. The idea of a noodle made from fish sounds like it's going to taste fishy and have a strange texture, but when it's in the dish, it tastes just like any other noodle – no fishy taste or smell,” Clean Eatz Production Manager Ben Mitchell said in a press release.

Keto is Clean Eatz’s second most popular diet, "and we are always looking for new ways to serve those customers" CEO Jason Nista said.

Blue Apron recently added Butcher Bundles, which includes four bundles of a selection of 12 servings of responsibly-sourced meat and seafood options. The Bundles offer home cooks the flexibility to stock up on proteins for weekly meal prep or to cook for family and friends, the home meal provider said in a press release.

The Butcher Bundle also comes with a variety of spice blends, recipe inspirations, and a cooking guide, “giving customers the opportunity to get creative in the kitchen, right in time for the grilling season,” Blue Apron said.

Meanwhile, meal kit delivery company Home Chef teamed up with Skinnytaste, the recipe and cookbook franchise founded by Chef Gina Homolka, to provide healthy new recipes such as Parmesan Salmon, Fish Florentine, and Shrimp Scampi with Broccoli Orzo.

Each recipe is under 550 calories, and takes into account a variety of consumer health needs, such as “sodium sensible, carb conscious and protein packed,” Home Chef said.
