Lobster, shrimp becoming stars of US restaurants' summer menus

Shrimp and lobster dishes are becoming the stars of U.S. restaurant chains’ newly released summer menus.

Hauppauge, New York-based Friendly’s Restaurants has launched a “classic New England summer menu, fitting for a day at the shore,” the company said in a press release. Its new menu items include Lobster and Shrimp Quesadilla, Buffalo Shrimp Quesadilla, Cape Cod SuperMelt on sourdough bread, Wonton Shrimp Wrap, and Wonton Shrimp Salad. Its menu already includes a lobster roll.

"For decades, Friendly's has been bringing smiles, delicious ice cream, and great food to communities along the East Coast," Friendly’s CEO Craig Erlich said. "And this summer it's no different with a craveable menu catering to all different taste buds. It's all about building new memories, bringing together family and friends around the table with great food.”

Orlando, Florida-based Marlow’s Tavern rolled out a Firecracker Shrimp appetizer and a Crispy Grouper Sandwich for its summer menu.

“When I’m looking for menu inspiration in the warmer months, I turn to seafood, grilled meats, refreshing salads, and lighter options like our Vegetable Farfalle,” Marlow’s TavernExecutive Chef, CEO, and Co-Founder John Metz said. “We’re focused on making the most of the season’s bounty by injecting bold flavors into all-American classics.”

Shrimp and salmon are hot on Nashville, Tennessee-based Rock Bottom Brewery’s new summer menu. New dishes include Southern Shrimp Cocktail Half-Pound, Crispy Calamari, and Smoked Salmon Dip with Grilled Bread and Cucumber Relish.

Oyster House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is offering take-home seafood kits so customers can hold their own clambakes and boils. For example, its Clambake Kit includes two, one-pound whole Maine lobsters, Prince Edward Island-sourced mussels, shrimp, littleneck clams, corn on the cob, potatoes, garlic-herb butter, lobster bibs, a steaming bucket, and cooking instructions.

Orlando, Florida-based Red Lobster also recently introduced 15 new dishes all priced under USD 20.00 (EUR 16.00), including its Crispy Cod Sandwich (which it has nicknamed Codzilla), Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, Wagyu Bacon Cheeseburger, and Baja Shrimp Bowl.

Its offerings include Parrot Isle Jumbo Coconut Shrimp, Grilled Shrimp Skewers, and Walt’s Fried Shrimp.
