US restaurant chains launch lobster, shrimp, cod specials as Lent kicks off

Red Lobster Lent special.

Coinciding with the start of Lent on 14 February, numerous U.S. restaurant chains are rolling limited-time offers featuring lobster, shrimp, and cod.

One of the biggest U.S. seafood restaurant chains, Orlando, Florida, U.S.A.-based Red Lobster, is bringing back its popular Lobsterfest promotion and adding several new shrimp and lobster dishes to its menu, including Lobster Lover’s Dream featuring twin North American lobster tails and linguine with lobster sourced from Maine.

“Whether you are dining with friends, family, or a significant other, this year’s lineup includes a delicious variety of new and signature items you’ll want to explore, like one of our most popular: the Lobster Lover’s Dream,” Red Lobster Chief Experience Officer Sara Bittorf said.

Red Lobster is also debuting a crispy lobster and shrimp stack, which offers customers crispy lobster tail meat, shrimp, and hush puppies over a bed of fries served with coleslaw, honey-jalapeño butter, and malt vinegar aioli. Another new offering is Dueling Southern Tails, which includes a shrimp-topped Maine lobster tail served over creamy grits, paired with a Maine lobster tail over macaroni and cheese topped with a bacon bourbon glaze.

Other restaurant chains are choosing to highlight shrimp in their Lent season offerings, due in part to favorable wholesale prices

Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.-based Long John Silver’s is discounting its shrimp baskets to USD 6.00 (EUR 5.60) and its Shrimp Sea-Shares to USD 10.00 (EUR 9.33).

“We believe delicious seafood should be accessible to all. Shrimp is the most popular seafood from coast to coast, and we’re excited to offer a range of shrimp options that are sure to satisfy every crew,” Long John Silver’s Vice President of Marketing and Innovation Christopher Caudill said.

Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A.-based White Castle is bringing back plain and Sriracha Shrimp Nibblers through 31 March. It is also adding clam strip offerings at some of its outlets.
