OBI Seafoods wins big slice of USD 62 million in US government procurement contracts

Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based OBI Seafoods won the majority of new pollock and salmon contracts worth nearly USD 62 million (EUR 55 million) through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The agency awarded USD 61.5 million (EUR 54 million) in contracts for its child nutrition and other related domestic food-assistance programs for Fiscal Year 2022. Three winning suppliers will deliver canned pink salmon, pollock nuggets, frozen pollock fillets, and pollock sticks between March and June 2022.

The Biden/Harris administration is very focused on supporting our fishermen and other domestic food producers as well as supporting our nation’s most vulnerable including the 30-plus million children that depend on the National School Lunch program every day,” the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource.

“[GAPP is] grateful for our sustaining partnership with the Department of Agriculture and for [its] sustained purchases of wild Alaska pollock for [its] federal food and nutrition and assistance program,” Morris said.

OBI Seafoods will supply around USD 47.1 million (EUR 41 million) worth of canned pink salmon.

Seattle, Washington-based Trident Seafoods will supply USD 12.5 million (EUR 11 million) worth of pollock fillets, pollock fish sticks, canned pink salmon, and pollock nuggets.
