Plant-based seafood analog developer Gathered Foods opens Ohio plant

Gathered Foods, makers of Good Catch plant-based seafood analog products, has opened a new production facility in Heath, Ohio, U.S.A.

The 42,500-square-foot plant was constructed specifically for high-tech production of Good Catch’s products, which include its new line launched last month.

"We are incredibly proud to establish a strong manufacturing footprint in the U.S. as we grow our product portfolio," Gathered Foods CEO Christine Mei said in a press release.

"With Good Catch's rapid expansion and the launch of our new line of frozen plant-based entrees and appetizers, having our own production facility enables us to optimize productivity and efficiency,” Mei added.

In January, Gathered Foods secured a USD 36.8 million (EUR 31 million) Series B Financing Round and expanded its distribution footprint on an international scale with its launch in Tesco stores in the United Kingdom.

This spring, San Diego, California-based Bumble Bee partnered with Good Catch. Bumble Bee said in a press release it would “leverage its sales, distribution and logistics expertise to ensure that consumers nationwide have access to Good Catch products at affordable prices.”

Gathered Foods hired Mei, who has more than 30 years in the consumer packaged goods industry, as its new CEO last month.

Earlier this summer, Good Catch launched its second product line of frozen entrees and appetizers in retailers on the East Coast. The new line includes New England Style Plant-Based Crab Cakes, Thai Style Plant-Based Fish Cakes, and Classic Style Plant-Based Fish Burgers.

Good Catch’s Ohio facility currently has 52 employees and is on track to expand to full capacity with up to 80 positions by the end of the year, according to Gathered Foods.
