Baar, Switzerland-headquartered multinational chemicals company Sika is planning to display its latest aquaculture sealant solutions at Seafood Expo Global, held 6 to 8 May in Barcelona, Spaind.
Sika specializes in chemical sealants and bonding for a wide array of industries, including the construction, agriculture, automotive, and industrial sectors. Its aquaculture sealing applications, the company said in a press release, are particularly suited to land-based operations.
At Seafood Expo Global the company will showcase solutions for fish farms, including waterproofing, flooring, roofing, and durable protection against the humid conditions typical of these facilities. Specific products to be displayed include the company’s Sikalastic M 689 polyurea protective coating, a low-maintenance membrane that does not release harmful substances into fish tanks after it is cured.
Additionally, the Sika team will display the Sikagard P 770 primer, the Sikadur-Combliflex SG joint sealing system, the Sika Waterbar FB-125, and the SikaSwell A, all of which address sealing issues in aquaculture operations.
Corporate Market Development Manager Waterproofing Albert Berenguel said, via a release about the news, that Sika’s products address biosecurity and fish welfare issues.
“Polyurea systems for the protection and sealing of concrete in land-based fish farms provide seamless, long-lasting surfaces capable of withstanding mechanical abrasion and chemical attack,” Berenguel said. “The smooth polyurea membrane surface inside tanks reduces the risk of fish injuries due to abrasion and facilitates cleaning by minimizing dirt accumulation. These systems also improve water flow and circulation, ensuring even distribution of nutrients and oxygen, making them ideal for large tanks.”
