Brussels strike could impact air travel as Airport Police join

The transportation labor strike planned for the week of Seafood Expo Global 2015 is now expected to include Airport Police at the non-Schengen travellers’ border control in Brussels.

New information from Diversified Communications, the company producing the show and parent company of SeafoodSource, indicates an Airport Police strike will take place between 20 and 24 April 2015, which may lead to delays in air travel at customs.

The announced action is in addition to the national strike announced for Wednesday 22 April impacting public transportation, including train and bus service. Show organizers are providing city and airport shuttles during the show, with an expanded alternative transportation service and schedule on Wednesday 22 April 2015.

Diversified offered the following advice to travelers:

  • Check your flight information online and contact your airline or travel agency for more information about your flight
  • Leave especially early for the airport
  • Look for alternative transport: take the car to the airport, use family or friends or even car-pooling. It will also come in handy to book your parking place at the airport beforehand online.
