Cannery to double pole-and-line tuna output

PT International Alliance Foods (PTIAFI), an Indonesian subsidiary of Alliance Select Foods International, on Thursday announced plans to increase its sustainable canned-tuna offerings.

PTIAFI plans to export up to 25 percent of its output from pole-and-line tuna sourced in 2011 and increase that to 50 percent in 2012. The tuna is completely traceable and is certified by the Indonesian fisheries department. The company said it will encourage more pole-and-line fishing and is looking at ways to invest in its current relationships to double its output.

Alliance Select Foods is a publicly listed company in the Philippines, with a smoked salmon factory in New Zealand, canneries in the Philippines and Indonesia and a marketing office in Thailand.

PFIATI operates a cannery in Indonesia with a capacity of 60 metric tons per day.
