Charlie the Tuna puts on skates

StarKist Seafood on Thursday announced a three-year promotional partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh-based canned-tuna company, which is owned by South Korea’s Dongwon Group, and the National Hockey League team have been working together since the 2008-09 season. Hockey fans can now expect to see a lot more of StarKist and its iconic spokesperson, Charlie the Tuna, in the Penguins’ new arena, which is due to open for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

StarKist signage will be positioned around the new arena, from the scoreboard and dasherboards to the LED rings and digital ad displays. In addition, StarKist will be prominent during Pittsburgh Penguin Radio Network broadcasts, and the company will feature ads in Ice Time magazine and the Consol Energy Entertainment Guide.

“The Penguins are excited to expand on our existing relationship with StarKist,” said David Peart, StarKist’s VP of business partnership. “They are a local Pittsburgh company and share in our core values of energy, drive and innovation.”
