Chinese firm adds to U.S. sales staff

Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group on Tuesday announced that it added to its U.S. sales team and now has two U.S. sales offices, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast.

The Chinese seafood company last week added William Cote to its East Coast sales office in Boston. He will serve as sales associate. Cote joins Richard Read and Edward Cauley, who are also based in Boston. Read and Cauley were hired as sales managers in February and December, respectively.

Randall Petersen, who works out of the company’s West Coast office in Portland, Ore., was hired as director of sales in November.

Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group is expanding its presence in the U.S. market and exhibiting at the International Boston Seafood Show, which kicks off on Sunday, said Jack Liu, president of the company’s ZF America subsidiary.

Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group is China’s largest scallop farmer, controlling about 70 percent of the country’s scallop market. Scallops are among the products the company will showcase at the three-day event, in addition to whitefish and tilapia. The company’s products are marketed under the Ocean Chef brand in the United States.

Founded in 1958 as a local fishermen’s co-operative, Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group is now a publicly traded company, with sales of more than USD 1 billion last year. It is a fully vertically integrated operation, with its own hatcheries, farms, fishing fleet, processing facilities and sales offices in Hong Kong, Europe, Canada and the United States.
