Cooke Aquaculture Receives Seafood Trust Certification

New Brunswick-based Cooke Aquaculture on Monday announced that its hatcheries in Oak Bay, N.B., and Bingham, Maine, received the International Food Quality Certification's Seafood Trust-Certified Quality Salmon Eco-Label.

"We are very pleased that Dr. Jake Elliott and his freshwater team have been successful in achieving this first step in bringing the Seafood Trust-Certified Quality Salmon Eco-Label to our entire operations and we are committed to rolling this program out through our saltwater and processing operations. It is our goal to achieve that by the fall of 2008," said CEO Glenn Cooke, in a prepared statement. "As a customer-focused company, this certification will help us to demonstrate to the consumer that we not only produce delicious, healthy and fresh products but that they are grown in an environmentally sustainable manner."

In order to achieve certification, Cooke's freshwater division underwent an independent assessment and provided evidence of a commitment to environmentally sustainable development and environmental policy.
