Excitement runs high as Seafood Expo Asia 2016 prepares to open its doors

The 2016 Seafood Expo Asia event is nearly underway, with exhibitors from 29 countries and visitors from over 86 countries descending upon Hong Kong for the exhibition, to be held from 6 to 8 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

This year’s event will feature new exhibiting countries including Portugal, Russia and Poland, and will give attendees the opportunity to participate in lively debates, interactive masterclasses and networking events, said show organizer Diversified Communications. A total of 13 regional and national pavilions will be in attendance at the seventh installment of the show, including those from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Turkey and the United States, as well as a pavilion from first-time participant, the Hainan Province Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Association of China.

“Seafood Expo Asia is not only a celebration of the world’s finest seafood, but also serves as a critical platform where fish and shellfish buyers from all sectors of the trade can experience what is new, plus hear about where the next big launch, major trend or key idea is coming from,” said Liz Plizga, Seafood Group Vice President of Diversified Communications, in a prepared statement

“With the Asian seafood sector continuing to evolve and expand rapidly, the exposition provides a taste of what’s to come in the industry. It offers seafood professionals the opportunity to learn about upcoming trends and innovations through a program of informative seminars, engaging culinary demonstrations and product launches designed to inspire new marketing ideas and business strategies,” Plizga added.

Other highlights of the show include panel sessions featuring leading industry experts discussing topics such as how sustainability is changing Asian markets, and the emerging role of e-commerce in helping to grow regional seafood sales. For the culinary masterclasses, attendees can observe distinguished chefs as they demonstrate how to source, handle, select and prepare seafood ingredients including crab, lobster and salmon.

Additionally, Seafood Expo Asia will be hosting a business matchmaking program that facilitates the search for products and suppliers by high volume buyers, as well as pre-arrange meetings, explained Diversified in a news release. “Through this matchmaking online platform and concierge service, more than 70 business meetings took place last year, with a new initiative for 2016 being an importer incentive program where key importers have been invited from specific regions,” said the organizer.

The Product Showcase will return to the exposition this year also, showcasing products from suppliers such as MEMMI, Cellmore, Errigal Bay, SeaWatch International, Tasmanian Seafoods, Bada Global and Seaprime.

Seafood Expo Asia is co-located with the fine dining and beverage exhibition, Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong. The organizer of both events, Diversified, is the parent company of SeafoodSource, the official media sponsor of Seafood Expo Asia.
