Exclusive: Take confusion out of importing

Last week, SeafoodSource hosted a webinar featuring Benjamin England, an attorney and 17-year veteran of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As founder of FDAImports.com in Columbia, Md., England helps his clients better understand and fully comply with federal and state requirements, reducing the risk of regulatory interference with products being imported, exported or distributed in interstate commerce.

England’s knowledge of the global seafood trade also runs deep, as several of his clients are domestic and foreign seafood companies. As part of an hour-long webinar, England shared his insight on the FDA, focusing on two subjects — the challenge of importing Japanese seafood products into the United States following the March earthquake and tsunami and a new FDA fee that will significantly increase the cost of inspecting product suspected of a food-safety violation. England also touched on a few other FDA-related topics.
