It was a sad day for more than 130 employees of the Pacific Coast Seafood plant on Northeast Skipanon Drive, who watched their livelihoods go up in flames Tuesday in a fire that destroyed the facility.
Today, a burned-out frame of a structure sits on the waterfront, blackened and crumpled. A few forklifts skirted around this morning, moving what they could. Men with fish bins stood on the other side. A few more curious people drive by the rubble to see it for themselves — perhaps the same people that watched in awe Tuesday as the smoke billowed so dark, at one time it blacked out the sun.
Smoke was reported around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, when the building was evacuated. Within minutes, the building was engulfed in flames.
