Iceland boosts cod, haddock quotas

The Icelandic Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has set quotas for the 2013-2014 fishing year, which opens on 1 September.

The total allowable catch for cod is 214,400 metric tons (MT), up from 195,400 MT last year.

The haddock TAC is 38,000 MT, compared to 36,000 for the 2012-2013 season.

The TAC for saithe was also increased to 57,000 MT compared to 50,000 MT the previous season.

The TACs for the other main species include (in MT):

Atlantic wolffish                           7,500

Ling                                            13,500

Tusk                                              5,900

Plaice                                            6,500

Herring                                        87,000

Lobster                                          1,750
