Icelandic chairman steps in as CEO

Icelandic Group Chairman Brynjólfur Bjarnason will temporarily take over as the company’s CEO and lead a new executive management team along with Ævar Agnarsson, CEO of Icelandic USA, and Magni Geirsson, managing director of Icelandic UK.

In a statement released on Friday, Bjarnason thanked CEO Finnbogi Baldvinsson, Deputy CEO Ingvar Eyfjörð and CFO Finnbogi Gylfason for their “valuable contribution” to the company, one of Europe’s largest seafood suppliers. All three resigned on Friday over the company’s breakup plans.

“The turbulence around Icelandic Group in recent years has been a challenging time for the company, its management and employees,” said Bjarnason. “Our main objective now is to obtain stability in the operations of Icelandic Group. The board of directors will now thoroughly consider the options available in order to maximize the return of the proposed asset sale. With its international network of independent production and marketing companies, Icelandic Group is well positioned to take advantage of exciting opportunities ahead.
