New cloud-based seafood traceability software coming to the US market

Norwegian traceability and business software developer Maritech will conduct a series of launches for the U.S. market at this year’s Seafood Expo North America (SENA) event, coming to Boston, Massachusetts from 11 to 13 March.

Among the innovations set to be showcased by the company at SENA18 is its suite of digital trading tools called DigitalSeafood, which is aimed at helping seafood processors, traders, and brokers access tailored, industry-specific resources and data important to running a transparent business. The DigitalSeafood suite consists of several apps including those for trading, claims, analytics, and dashboards, and offers a cost-efficient digital solutions for organizations of all sizes, Maritech said in a press release.

Such cloud-based technology – and digitization at large – promote “greater collaboration possibilities across the entire value chain,” the company said. Seafood stakeholders are beginning to catch on, and investments within the cloud-based sector as it applies to seafood have started generating returns for Maritech, the company’s CEO Janne T. Morstøl said.

“Cloud-based solutions have attracted a lot of our investment in the last year and the already underlying sales success of these solutions shows the seafood sector is embracing the cost-savings and efficiency these solutions can deliver. Although Maritech already offered a trading platform that is favored by the industry, the digitalization trend is still in its early stages,” Morstøl said. “We already see signs that current and potential customers – both in Norway and internationally – aim to capitalize on the expected digitalization boom in the seafood sector.”

The technology developer expects that the current industry trend toward cloud-enabled solutions will hold strong throughout 2018 “as seafood producers demonstrate the drive and determination to lead the way in adopting new technologies for efficient and sustainable seafood production,” it said.

Maritech’s process support software and its specialized seafood trading platform have been embraced by traders, processors, and fish farmers in Norway. Several technologies are on offer from the company, including cloud-based software that tracks and traces fish from farmers and fisheries to production and processing, sales, and distribution, and then to the consumer.

Maritech will be exhibiting at Seafood Expo North America at booth #1468 from 11 to 13 March.
