Newly formed Cooke Seafood names first CEO

Ross Butler has been named the CEO of Cooke Seafood USA and of the Wanchese Fish Co., which the Cooke family acquired last week.

Butler has been senior VP at Cooke Aquaculture since 2010. He was responsible for the company’s processing and harvesting operations, and also played a senior role in the family’s growth and acquisition activities.

Butler, who has 30 years of experience in the seafood industry, is a graduate of the Marine Institute and Memorial University in Newfoundland. Previously, Butler rose through the ranks at Fishery Products International. He left that company in 2002, last serving as VP-Atlantic operations. He also was VP-groundfish operations at Ocean Choice International.

Butler, who is chairman of the board of directors at Culmarex, the Cooke family’s Spanish sea bass and sea bream farming company, will move with his family to Suffolk, Va., USA, where he will assume leadership duties at Cooke Seafood USA and manage the daily operations at Wanchese, a long-standing scallop supplier.
