Norwegian seafood export value drops 7%

The value of Norwegian seafood exports in the first half of 2012 totaled NOK 24.8 billion, down NOK 1.2 billion (4.8 percent) compared to the same period last year.

In addition, the value of the country’s exports increased in value by NOK 256 million in June, up 7 percent compared to June 2011, to a total of NOK 2.6 billion.

The value of Norwegian salmon exports in the first half of the year totaled NOK 14 billion, down by NOK 967 million compared to the first half of 2011. The decline is due to a drop in export prices. In June, the average price for fresh whole salmon was NOK 26.8, compared to NOK 32.77 in June 2011. The biggest markets for salmon in June were France and Russia, the same as in the previous month.

Exports of Norwegian Fjord trout increased in value in the first half of the year by NOK 188 million for a total of NOK 802 million. In June, exports were up in value by NOK 29 million to a total of NOK 129 million. Russia and Japan are the biggest importers of the country’s trout.

Norwegian herring exports in the first half of the year fell in value by NOK 90 million to a total of NOK 2.2 billion. In June, the value of herring exports totaled NOK 288 million, slightly down from June last year. Russia and Germany are the biggest markets for Norwegian herring.?

Exports of mackerel increased in value by NOK 338 million to a total of NOK 1.1 billion. In June the increase was NOK 49 million to a total of NOK 98 million. The biggest importers of mackerel from Norway are China and Russia.

Exports of clipfish in the first half of the year fell by NOK 40 million to a total of NOK 1.5 billion. In June, exports increased in value by NOK 27 million to a total of NOK 228 million. A breakdown of the export figure for the first six months shows that Norwegian cod clipfish accounted for NOK 877 million, saithe NOK 535 million, torsk NOK 54 million, ling NOK 40 million and other groundfish NOK 28 million.

First-half exports of salted fish including fillets fell in value by NOK 177 million to a total of NOK 627 million, of which Norwegian Cod accounted for NOK 572 million.

Exports of fresh Norwegian cod including fillets from fishery fell in value by NOK 26 million to a total of NOK 620 million. In the same period, exports of frozen Norwegian cod including fillets increased in value by NOK 80 million to a total of NOK 776 million.
