Panapesca USA of Pembroke, Mass., on Tuesday announced it launched its own brand of Friend of the Sea-certified scallops and red drum fillets.
The scallops used for Panapesca’s Scallop on the Half Shell are from FOS-certified Peruvian Acuacultura y Pesca Group. The scallops are grown in cages using a natural farming method and no feed or drugs.
The red drum is produced by Ferme Marine de Mahebourg of Mauritius. The sites were selected after surveys and an environmental impact assessment. The stock is fed using FOS-certified fish feed.
“We believe the Friend of the Sea helps us communicate effectively our commitment to bringing responsibly produced seafood products to the consumer,” said Michael Davis, president of Panapesca USA. “Panapesca has other sustainability certifications, and it is our intention to make this a priority when evaluating suppliers and categories.”
