According to various Portuguese-language news reports, PepsiCo has sold Coqueiro, a major Brazilian fish canner, to Camil Alimentos for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition includes two processing facilities — one in São Gonçalo and one in Itajai. Coqueiro produces mainly canned sardines and tuna and has about 1,500 employees.
Camil Alimentos, a major producer of rice and beans, said it plans to expand its seafood activities; it already owns Alcyon Fisherman and other seafood brands.
Coqueiro was PepsiCo’s one seafood brand in the Brazilian market.
