Production up at Congressional Seafood's new facility

Congressional Seafood, a seafood supplier to Virginia, Maryland and the metro Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas, is celebrating the first anniversary of its new processing facility in Jessup, Maryland.

The new plant, which opened in October 2015, now processes more than 20,000 pounds of fish daily, allowing the company to deliver its products to more than 750 restaurants, country clubs, hotels, and high-end retail markets, the company said.

"We’re so happy to be in the new headquarters. We believe the state-of-the-art facility will raise the bar for food protection and enable us to continue to deliver the highest quality seafood to our customers throughout the mid-Atlantic,” Congressional Vice President and Director of Operations Jon Pearlman said in a press release.

Since opening the new facility, the company has experienced record business growth, expanding its fleet of delivery trucks to 25 vehicles and expanding its delivery range as far north as Newark, New Jersey and as far south as Richmond, Virginia.

The facility includes an 88,000-square-foot processing plant of space, and 8,000 square feet of office space. It was developed by Merritt Construction Services at a cost of USD 8.9 million (EUR 8.4 million). The 5.5-acre property near the Maryland Seafood Market is owned jointly by Merritt Properties and Stanley Pearlman, the president of NAFCO, Congressional Seafood’s sister company.
